This paper intends to discuss the concept of following a rule in Wittgenstein’s Philosophical Investigations. The interpretation I provide here takes that problem as a transcendental one. My aim is to show that the problem can be solved through a conceptual analysis of the relations between “learning” and “explaining”; whose acknowledgement, on Wittgenstein’s view, shows that the problem of following a rule and, in an analogous way, the question as to whether those relations are intersubjective ones, can be clarified by the correct understanding of its place in the functioning of language.
